“Before starting the program, my fitness had declined from being good to a fairly average level. I had taken a leave of absence from the Army Reserve because of my civilian career and needed to get back into shape for the start of the new training year and promotion courses. I needed help with consistency and what to focus on.


Before starting with Farren, we talked about my goals and motivation. I set out my goals, and he set out his expectations of what he asks from trainees. His military PTI experience was significant for me because he knew the standards required to complete the arduous courses. He’s also very personable and engaging, and I felt reassured about signing up for the training program.


Making that vital commitment was a critical first step, and I couldn’t wait to get going. I have seen my fitness improve across the board. I am stronger, faster, more robust and leaner.


The sessions are challenging, as they should be, but enjoyable. I look forward to Sunday each week and seeing what next week’s training has in store. The training program is periodised and designed to turn you into a hybrid athlete. As a soldier, you need to be good at everything rather than a specialist in one particular aspect of fitness. 


However, unlike other programs, strength or conditioning is always addressed and nothing is excluded for long cycles. The priorities just change depending on the phase of the program. You will always finish a session sweating and feeling like you’ve earned your breakfast! 


Having your whole week preprogrammed takes away the headache and guesswork. You just need to show up and get the work done. The regular check-ins with Farren are a good chance to discuss any issues or work on points. Because he’s a nice guy, it’s also good to have someone to chat to about your progress.


He uses the TrueCoach app to program the sessions, which is free and easy to use. He programs all of the exercises including sets, repetitions, and tempo. He even programs in the rest periods, so all the guesswork is removed. To augment this, he adds in stretching and mobility, which is essential given the duration and difficulty which are contained in some sessions.


This means that you can both actually track your progress and measure it against the benchmark for your goals. I have seen my lifts going up and my run times going down. I recently took the six-month SCR fitness test and blew my previous results out of the water.


Farren’s style emulates him as a person. The program is dynamic, engaging, and varied. Apart from the standard compound lifts which you need to repeat over time to make progress, no two sessions have been the same, which is something I benefit from as I can get bored quite quickly.


You track all your sessions, be they strength or running, so he can actively monitor your progress and test and adjust as necessary. Having that check-in process and accountability is so important. When you don’t feel like training, it keeps you honest, reminding you of your goals and your purpose for being on the program. The accountability factor is a huge benefit to this program that you just don’t get from some algorithm or random website program.


I would strongly recommend Farren and the Tactical Athelte program. It works, simple as that. For military or civilians who want to train and become a tactical or hybrid athelete this program is for you. Farren has that important blend of being incredibly likeable and motivating, while also knowledgable and experienced. Don’t wait any longer!”

I highly recommend Farren as a personal trainer. He was able to tailor workouts specifically to my needs, which were focused on joining the army. Since starting his program, I have seen significant improvements both physically and mentally. For example, my 2km run time improved by 2 minutes in just a few months.

“Previously I worked in a job that required a high level of fitness and daily fitness training was part of that role. On leaving that job my personal fitness took a back seat and guess not a priority as I progressed through my career change and home relocation. After training with Faz for I want to say 5 months now, my fitness levels are really high, I have seen a massive increase in my running performance. Being able to hold a 3:32/km pace for 1km and there is more progress with that to come.


The sessions were awesome, they always pushed me to my limits. It was good following a regimented program aswell so that I knew exactly what training I was doing for that day. They were also very flexible, when I was away out of country making it hard to train I was able to either pause the program without impacting my payments or Faz would change up the session to what I had available. The session would still be just as impactful.


The training style was awesome. I would be running every other day which made my progress very significant. I would be training in zones for running which i had never heard of before this program. It was good because I was able to push myself through how capable I felt. I knew exactly what pace I had to hit and always hit it. 


The strength training was good aswell as you would train with tempo training often which I hadn't heard of before this. This meant that I was able to push myself through holding a specific tempo. For example 2 seconds down on a squat, 1 second pause, explode up and then 1 second pause. It's an awesome way of training. There's also plenty of circuit training involved through EMOM, AMRAP and rounds based for time.


I would recommend Faz to anyone. Whether you are looking to lose weight while improving your fitness, training for P-Coy, joining any one of the forces, Army, Navy, Raf. “As a serving reservist who’d run a few marathons over the years, I thought I was in reasonably good shape, but following a fitness test where I wasn’t up to scratch, I was in need of a reality check. I started the program with an open mind (along with a slightly bruised ego) and four months in, it’s exciting to see the changes in fitness levels. 


Running is easier and faster after some hefty weight loss. Rucking wasn’t something I’d done much of before so it’s been encouraging to see that progress too.


The best thing about the sessions is the variation. It helps you find the exercises you like (in my case, ones I’d never have thought of doing) as well as the ones that need more work. 


I found the accountability side of the program the most useful. Rightly or wrongly, I’d feel like I was letting Farren down if I missed a workout - and knowing there were eyes on me from afar was certainly the motivation I’d need to get up and out of bed on a cold, wet morning. They say it’s best to workout with a friend - and having that encouragement on the end of an app is the next best thing. 


Logging on to find the programming for the next week enabled me to plan my time, but it was great to know that Farren was there to suggest ways to rearrange things when life didn’t go entirely to plan too.


Farren’s coaching and training style is perfectly suited to those in the uniformed services. I’d tried standard gym programmes before but got bored of the typical unimaginative lifts, and then demoralised when I saw no progression. “My fitness level was basic. I had very little knowledge as to why or what my goals needed to be, just that I needed to improve. My training was chaotic, fast and often I would not complete sets to hypertrophy. I was lazy in not keeping count of my reps. My body was not balanced. I did what I felt like. All the warms' ups are relevant to the muscle groups and activate in readiness. I really enjoyed the cool downs and stretches. I have remained injury free and achieved PR in my weakest areas such as pull ups and BS and seen visible results in my GHD and glute bridge. Regressions were picked up however this was done in such a way that it was enabling as opposed to disabling my confidence. My needs were met and accommodated creatively to the environment and as such never a barrier.


I would describe the coaching program as unique and professional. I found it challenging mentally and physically, full of variety and given the time and other constraints you achieve what you put in. I feel I have gained so much yet have just got started. This has given me a valuable insight to the benefits of having an experienced professional athlete and what a coach brings and only highlights how little I did know. “Felt my fitness was at a good level before starting the program had been training for around 2 years before hand but felt I had reached a plateau in my training and since starting the program my lifts have skyrocketed even after coming back from a surgery I’m stronger and faster than I have even been. 


Sessions were good felt I have been pushed during most of them however I didn’t feel like I was over training.
